Leveling clips for wood-look plank tile
Plank tile needs more clips per square foot than any other format: about 3 per sq ft for 6×24 and about 2 for 8×48 at 12-inch spacing. Clip the long edges every 12 inches or closer, keep the offset to a third of the plank length or less, and use a 3.0 mm (1/8") clip unless the tile maker allows a tighter joint.
Clips per 100 sq ft for planks
| Plank | Clips per plank (12") | Clips / 100 sq ft (12") | Clips / 100 sq ft (8") |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6×24 | 3 | 330 | 441 |
| 6×36 | 4 | 295 | 443 |
| 8×48 | 5 | 210 | 293 |

Plank tips
- Planks bow along their length. A third offset or less stops a high centre meeting a low end.
- Random offsets look natural, but never let ends line up within a few inches.
- Clip the long edges well. That's where planks rock.
- A 3.0 mm clip with 1/8" spacers at walls is a common setup.
