Can you reuse leveling clips and wedges?
No for clips, yes for wedges. The clip base is set into the thinset under the tile and the top snaps off, so each clip is used once. Wedges pull back out and can be reused on job after job if you rinse thinset off before it hardens. You only need as many wedges as clips in the floor at one time, usually about one day's work.
How many wedges do you need?
Clips get used up; wedges cycle. Count the clips you'd put in on your biggest day and keep that many wedges. For most crews a few hundred is plenty. The clip calculator works this out if you enter how much you lay per day.
Making wedges last
- Drop pulled wedges in a bucket of water so thinset doesn't harden on them.
- Scrub off any residue before the next job. Grit on a wedge stops it sliding evenly.
- Retire wedges that are cracked or have worn teeth.
- Heavier wedges like our Style 2 take repeated plier pressure better than thin ones.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't leveling clips be reused?
The clip base sits under the tile in the thinset and the top is designed to snap off at the joint. Once it's snapped, there's nothing left to reuse.
How many times can you reuse leveling wedges?
There's no fixed number. Kept clean, wedges go job after job until they crack or wear. Replace any that slip in the clip.
